Brushes 101

Make up brushes are something that used to be alien to me and I'd just slap on my foundation with my fingers and hope for the best. However since I've explored the realms of makeup brushes doing my makeup has become a lot easier and a lot less messy. Brushes can however be pricey and there are a lot of cheaper dupes out there for the high end brands and frankly are just as good. I don't own any Mac brushes as I just can't justify paying around £20 for a single brush. I have created this post to share with you the makeup brushes I use on a daily basis.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush- Now I'm pretty sure this brush doesn't need an introduction as it is raved about all over the blogoshpere. This brush is part of the Real Techniques Core Collection and it is the brush that a lot of people buy the set for. It is perfect for seamlessly blending your foundation into the skin with speed and precision. The soft bristles don't irritate or scratch the skin and they cope well with frequent washing- I tend to wash mine every two weeks.

Real Techniques Contour Brush- Also part of the Real Techniques Core Collection this brush is perfect for acheiving the perfect contour around the temples and hollows of your cheeks. Even though this brush is designed for contouring I tend to use this brush to blend in my under eye concealor. It softly sweeps under the eye to create a flawless finish.

Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush- I don't often wear lots of eyeshadow however whenever I feel a bit adventourous I always reach for this brush. It is perfect for adding lots of colour and definition to the eye when creating a smoky eye look. The densly packed brush allows for lots of product to be stored on the brush so it is important to use sparingly.

Eco Tools Angled Brow Brush- Finally moving away from the Real Techniques brushes we have a simple angled brush from Eco Tools. I use this brush to fill in my brows and the soft, slim bristles are perfect for achieveing the perfect brow. Check out my post about what products I use in my brows here.

Sigma Beauty E25 Blending Brush- Last but not least we have what has been dubbed as the Mac 217 dupe. I use this blending brush to buff out any harsh lines when applying eye shadow. The soft bristles help to blend the colour seamlessly across the eyelid- great for any makeup novice.

I hope you enjoyed this run through of my most used brushes.
What brushes would you recommend that I try? Are MAC Brushes worth the money?

  1. I love the Real Techniques blending sponge but the brushes didn't do it for me really! I do love the eyeshadow brushes though :D x
